Allison Stroman - As clothes gain more wear, they can develop holes, worn areas, rips, and broken seams among other signs of wear and tear. Instead of throwing these clothes away, mending your own clothes restores them to wearable items that you can add personal touches to. These on-of-a-kind touches allow your favorite pieces to stay in your closet for longer or they can give new life to a piece that might get thrown out otherwise. Join us in learning more about upcycling and mending from Miyu Shan, Upcycling Design Trainee, Summer 2024.
Allison Stroman - In an industry with high costs and seemingly too many options, disabled and plus size people face barriers to finding clothes that fit their bodies and needs. Additionally, finding items to fit one’s personal style is an entirely different challenge as many inclusive items do not have the same colorful, fun, and joyful vibe that straight size clothing has. That being said, there are many innovators in fashion dedicated to creating fun, functional, and comfortable clothing for a wide range of people.

This decrease in stress frees up more space for us to focus on the tasks important to us.
Allison Stroman - The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics has made several efforts to lower their environmental impact and align with the International Olympic Committee's Agenda 2020. In the Agenda, the IOC provides statements on sustainability in Recommendation 4 and 5. Recommendation 4 is to “[i]nclude sustainability in all aspects of the Olympic Games” and Recommendation 5 is to “[i]nclude sustainability within the Olympic Movement’s daily operations”. Both Recommendations have a specific outline for the targets and action steps.
